A New Zealand First: The Magic is in the Screen is certainly true with our recent installation in NZ with the Plas480 LED screen panels.

ICE AV Tech’s LED Division established a New Zealand first with this stunning new aquatic cinema LED screen installation. Large format LED Screens are making an increasing inroad to numerous sites for diverse uses.

Aquatic Pool LED Screen

Industrial Grade Waterproof Plas480 cabinet LED screen

For many though unfamiliar with LED screens are all a bit of a mystery as it is the only display technology that can be used to build digital screens ranging from 1 sqm to 1,000’s of meters that can cover entire buildings, placed underwater or on the wall in a retail store.

The core building block of an LED Screen is the LED tile which in turn is mounted into the actual LED cabinet. It is the actually cabinet that the integrator installer will handle to fit into the mounting structure. In this video we show you the relatively straight forward method to assemble a large LED screen using the ICE Plas480 industrial LED cabinets in this installation building a 3.36m High x 1.92m Wide LED screen.

In the case of the ICE AV Plas480 cabinets measuring 480mm x 480mm they will typically mounted onto a steel frame structure. For expo and temporary use they can be hung from wire rope clamps. The aspect to consider is whether the screens can be accessed from the rear or from the front. This will dictate the type of bracket used, simple in style they have functionality for either front panel removal or rear access. Each panel is an independent unit that is interconnected to the adjacent panel in the row with external data and power connectors. An LED screen itself does not have the typical DVI, SDI, Composite or VGA type inputs, however it is capable of displaying all these and others. So is that contradiction? No not at all, as typically every LED screen has at least three other crucial component.
1 – Either a Computer or LED Source Switcher
2 – LED Data Processor – commonly called a Sending Card
3 – The Receiver Card Processor .

LED Screen Switcher

By using the switcher numerous external media sources can be displayed immediately on the LED screen.

For the Plas480 Panels they have the unique design of the Power / Controller box being able to control a number of Panels. So depending on the screen size you would install one or more units, whereas the common design has a receiver card installed inside each LED cabinet. In addition to the Plas480 ICE has a diverse range of LED screen models to cater for a wide range of installation requirements.

So delivering the signal or source into the LED screen is via the computer or the LED Source Switcher. Typically the Sending Card is installed in either one. So If you are using the LED Source Switcher we install the special LED data processor within the unit or if only using a computer to host all media and no switcher is used on the system, then we install the Sending Data Card processor internally on a PCI slot.

We recommend that the computer is able to be connected via the internet for remote support and maintenance. In addition installing one of our remote IP camera options allows us to monitor the screen performance and especially crucial during remote adjustment enabling us to stand virtually in front of the screen.
